About Us
We are a NYS Not for Profit Incorporated association of beekeepers located in Western New York which includes regions as far East as Rochester, North to Lake Ontario, West to Lake Erie, and South to the Pennsylvania border. Our association includes hobbyists as well as commercial beekeepers. Our organization’s Constitution can be found HERE.

Floyd Wigler Grant

Amy Barkley is a Livestock Specialist with Cornell Cooperative Extension and, with her husband Zachary, owns and operates Snowy Brook Farm in East Concord, NY, where they manage heritage poultry, a small orchard, and a small apiary. This year, the apiary’s genetics have shifted to be made up predominantly of local, early-season swarming stock from captured swarms.
Amy has been managing honeybees for nearly seven years at the highest point in the county, an area that sees some of the most severe wind, snow, and cold in western New York. Additionally, the lake effect rain shadow plus their elevation results in extended wet springs and wet falls with earlier frost than surrounding areas. This climate has demanded intense adaptability, and it took many challenging winters before she was able to land on a winterizing scheme that works. She’s looking forward to sharing this and general winterizing principles with you at the upcoming meeting.

Educational Hive
The WNYHP, Inc. (our club) is the proud owner of a Brushy Mountain educational hive. For those of you who have never seen one, it is a “bee-free” replica of what an actual hive body would look like. All of the comb, queen, worker bees, brood, honey, etc. is shown on the frames in realistic picture form. This educational hive is available for ANY WNYHPI MEMBER (paid current in dues) to use for purposes such as speaking engagements, presentations, and other functions.
